I love the blog and website. Iam a regular visitor....
I am attending my first White Sox's game next week. Chinatown is close to U.S. Cellular Field. Can anyone tell me how much parking would be in Chinatown on a game night? The ballpark charges $20. Is it less stressful and cheaper to park in Chinatown rather than use the stadium parking?

If it is a night game, any meters in Chinatown is free after 6:00pm. On most sides street, it's free all the time, just watch the signs. Some residential area requires stickers. Just don't park on any streets starting at 26th Street and south, because you will need a permit during Sox games.

One idea is to park in Chinatown as close as you can to Cermak Road and take the Red Line train on Cermak Road and Wentworth Avenue for $2.00. It's only one stop away on 35th St. If you can't find street parking, there is a lot on Cermak and Wentworth that is pretty cheap. So you will still save money and avoid a lot of traffic.

Also, on Wentworth Ave, the #24 southbound bus runs right to U.S. Cellular. Hope this helps.

If you are palnning to come to Chinatown on a weekend, I would suggest ontacting the Chinese Cultural Institute about their Chinatown Tour. It's inexpensive and very interesting. It runs every weekend from 10:30am - noon. Here's their link:

Hello,
I spent the last 6 months living in Beijing as an English teacher. Now, I am in my hometown (Chicago) and want to again immerse myself in the wonderful Asian culture, though taking an education route. So, I have a few questions. First, do most people in China town speak any amount of English? Second, would people in Chinatown be interested in English classes? The cost would be somewhere around $20 for 5 classes, or $70 for a one month pass (inculding 5 classes each week). Anything anyone can tell me would be really helpful. Thankyou.

Kathleen,

The Chinatown community range from those who grew up here and speak fluent English to those that are new to America and speak limited or no English. Yes, there are people in Chiantown that want to learn English. But there are also a few groups offering English classes, such as the local Chinese Chriatian Union Church and Chinese American Service League. There are also private groups that offer English classes, so I guess you can add you services there as well. Good luck!
